Celling sex: Research video screening of women who trade sex in Toronto, Canada @ 519 Church Street, Toronto, Canada M4Y 2C9

We are hosting a free, public screening of the Celling Sex video on Thursday February 20th at 7pm at the 519 (519 Church St). This is a community-engagement event -- the video is 17 minutes and will be followed with an audience discussion facilitated by members of the research team.

What is Celling Sex?
Celling Sex is a community-based participatory research project. We used cellphone video-making and interviews to learn from young women who trade sex about their harm reduction practices and access to health care. The study engaged 15 straight and queer-identified young women of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds between the ages of 19-25.

The Celling Sex video uses excerpts of the participants' video to report on the research findings and highlight key recommendations for community and service providers on breaking the stigma and supporting young women who trade sex. The screenings are productive spaces that spark dialogue and learning for everyone.

Audience response to previous Celling Sex screenings:

"I thought it was informative and great to have the youth show their stories and control the narratives"

"I consider myself a life-long learner and I just got taught. In a great way. I will remember this always."

"It was impactful to hear even the smallest part of some of the participants' stories, and the barriers that many of them face when they are honest about what and why they do what they do."
