Respect, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (REDI) workshops series

*Delivered by REI Executive Director, Michael Charles. At least 1.5 hours is required for this session.

Establishing equitable policies, procedures and curriculum plans is essential to creating working and learning environments that enable all to bring their whole selves in service of common goals. But without changes in values, beliefs and behaviors that dominate the workplace, the status quo of cultural homogeneity remains remarkably stubborn. In the wake of homogeneity frequently follows diminished innovation, a sense of detachment, declining personal performance - even interpersonal conflict.

How do we change culture? Each of us has a role to play to create environments of inclusion and belonging. Inclusive leaders stimulate creative thinking, productivity and well-being in the classroom and in teams. In this seminar, we will look at the aspirational elements of inclusive leadership for a diverse and globalized institution of higher education. Designed for faculty and non-academic leaders, this session provides an interactive opportunity to consider the “LUCCC” model, an approach that extends conventional theories of leadership.

Participants may expect to:

  • Understand the growing importance of inclusivity for the future of work.
  • Consider the role of cultural competency and dismantling unconscious bias to build stronger teams.
  • Increase the ability to create an atmosphere of trust.
  • Explore concepts through engagement with interactive case studies.
